The Medicinal Revolution

PERIOD 820 AHR
REIGN King Valnar I Fritz
INVENTOR Nurse Lenora Calloway

History

With titan engagement growing due to the recent invention of mobility gear, more injuries than deaths began to grow after titan combat, though, the injuries were incapable of being treated due to the status of medicine within The Walls. These issues also became clear in the year 725 AHR, when a plague swept across The Walls. Minor lacerations would grow to fatal infections, broken bones would never heal, and amputations would grow as a prevalent “treatment.”

The Discovery

In 819 AHR, Lenora Calloway witnessed her father die of an infection that was initially just a laceration on his arm from his blacksmith work. She quickly began research into better methods of emergency medicine, using a journal of the recent treatments she had been giving and witnessing, and taking from the various flaws she witnessed. One of these flaws, that she witnessed herself, was infection and the lack of sterile equipment. Medical equipment was rarely, if ever cleaned, and only really consisted of sewing needles and small blades, therefore the equipment being used was used between multiple patients and being cleaned with dirty water. She created a quick mixture of clean water and salt, which created a form of saline solution. When used in medical care, she noticed that tools cleaned with it and wounds being cleaned with it seemed far less prone to infection, and nearly erased the risk of it in emergency treatment. Though, internal wounds grew to be more of an issue. So, she created a small blade, later called a scalpel, that was sharp enough to slice through human flesh without an issue and was petite enough not to cause larger lacerations. Alongside this, she made crutches out of wood that helped people walk better than the existing ones, and trained the existing nurses on sterile stitching procedures. Other equipment Lenora created included fabric masks for surgeons and citizens to wear, paired with stretchy sterile gloves created from wood pulp.

Continued Innovations

Through the span of a year, she began pushing out her recent inventions and treatments towards injured individuals, which proved successful, though fatalities for the “greater good” definitely surfaced. Basic medical injuries mortality rate grew less and less, and after the newfound existence of safe medical procedures, Lenora had a clinic built within various districts, that provided the nurses with proper equipment to treat the citizens and military, and the success was clearly noted by people capable of walking away from surgeries at long last, and the military being able to efficiently return to their branches rather than succumbing to their wounds.

After medics were efficiently trained and medical groups were founded, Lenora was able to retire and work from home after marrying and having two children, beginning to sell herbal remedies for healing within Trost District, and beginning more tedious tasks for the coming years, including painkillers, though, they have yet to be released…

Present Day

Today, Lenora's medicinal advancements have revolutionized the Walls medical programs, and led to a significant increase in life expectancy for all of Humanity. In understanding many of the sources of disease, infection, or otherwise dangerous contagions, humanity has learned how to effectively combat these invisible dangers, largely in thanks to Lenora's masterful research and inventions.
