History

Living within the District of Shiganshina, Juneau understood that the Titans were always present, and when activity spikes would approach, she, alongside the rest of her District, would hide in fear as the cannon-fire rang out from above Wall Maria, attempting to stop the never-ending banging on the Outer and Water Gates. During one of these attacks, Juneau noticed how any local flying wildlife, such as birds, butterflies, and bees, would disperse from the area following any disruption from their day-to-day activities. Juneau had her work cut out for her from there; any day there was a spike in Titan Activity around the district, she would climb atop her roof and study the flying patterns of the animals flying above.

Sketch after sketch, Juneau began to try to design a type of gear a person could wear to be able to fly, as the birds above her had. Through trial and error, she eventually developed what we know as “Three Dimensional Moving Gear”, but to her, it was her “Personal Utility Transport”, or P.U.T. Juneau had utilized wires from the lifts, which are used to lift cargo, amongst other things, atop the wall. In addition to other mechanisms, her gear seemed to be a fairly stable prototype; however, she ran into one issue, namely, fuel. With the help of a local stonemason, named Hubert Shrives, she was able to transform iceburst ore into iceburst gas, which was able to help power her P.U.T. gear.

After some tweaks, Juneau shocked the populace of her district by one day zooming across Shiganshina, but she not only got the attention of the citizens, but also some Military personnel, who believed that her gear would be extremely useful to them in their fight against the Titans. Remembering the days she lay scared as a child within her home during spikes of Titan Activity, Juneau decided that this would be best not only for her, but for Humanity as a whole. From that point on, the Military began producing “Three Dimensional Moving Gear”, known as 3DMG. For her contributions to Humanity, Juneau Thrax was given the title “The Savior.”

Following her work for the Military, it appears that Juneau has gone into hiding, preferring to live a private life, away from the pomps and circumstance she was awarded for her brilliant invention. As of 794 AHR, the status of Juneau Thrax is unknown.

Today, 3DMG has become a common tool within the military's arsenal. In the year 853, the same year as the Breach of Wall Maria, 3DMG became standard issue for all members of the military. The Breach marked a paradigm shift in public sentiment as the population increasingly rallied behind the idea of utilizing 3DMG as a means to counter the Titan threats beyond the Walls and to hopefully one day reclaim Wall Maria.
